It’s been host to authors, NBA players, local legends and fashion designers. Notable musicians have played here, both concerts and games of H-O-R-S-E. And on gentle summer nights, as the staccato rhythms of worn leather on fading asphalt mixes with the white noise of the distant night life across the Cape Fear, kids have grown up here. I should know, I was one of them. The truth is, a town’s identity is made up of places like this one. And once they’re gone, they’re gone. A lot of lost kids found their way to something better in this park. In a confusing world, at a confusing time in their lives… they found something that made sense here. And they became better people because of it.
Surely that is worth preserving.

What makes any high school special? This is where it all happened for the first time. The heartache and the happiness. All of it. Being in this hallway… feels like it was yesterday. I wake up sometimes and I miss it. But this is good. It’s all still right here

When I was a freshman I wasn’t a very good person. I mean sure I was popular and dated seniors… but as a person I was pretty lost. And over the last four years I’ve been forced to grow up. I stopped letting boys define me and I started believing in myself and in my potential. I ran for student council president and I designed a clothing line and somewhere along the way, the lost little party girl became the girl on the wall of honor.
